Channel 2 (PBS)

  • 5 January 1976: The standard package of Jon Pertwee stories debuted in Boston on Monday 5 January, from 7.30 to 8.00pm. The TOPS TODAY and main billings both name the star as "John Pertwee". The main billing for the first episode also offers rather scathing comments about the quality of the BBC's special effects!
  • The following week, 12 January, the episode was billed as a 'repeat', but it's not clear if that was actually the case. From 20 January, the series moved to Tuesday. The 10 February entry (the show aired at 8.30pm for this episode only) gives the following synopsis: "Plague spreads to London before Dr Who manages to find antidote", which is for Doctor Who and the Silurians, either episode five or six, depending on whether or not 12 Jan had been a repeat.
  • From 10 April, the series moved to Saturdays, presumably to coincide with the start of a new story (Inferno?).
  • The first run was completed by April 1977.
  • 1984: The series aired week days from 7.00 to 7.30pm during September 1984.
  • 16 May 1987: Sylvester McCoy makes his first US convention appearance, appearing at the WGBH studios as a part of the Doctor Who travelling Bus Tour.
  • 1987: During October 1987, the series aired on Sundays at 11.30pm.
  • 1991: By February 1991, Doctor Who had been dropped.

  • According to THIS LINK WSBK in Boston, Massachusetts (independent channel 38) was one of the first stations to air the series. We think this might actually be an error, and it was station WTEV that was being referred to.
