WVEC

Variety, 16 August 1978 Variety1978.JPG WVEC was one of the first stations to purchase the Tom Baker stories

Channel 13 (ABC)

  • We have yet to establish the first transmission date, but the series initially aired Monday to Friday, at 4.30pm for several months.
  • After several months (when the station went onto a 24 hour schedule) the series was moved to a much earlier time (possibly 4.00am!).
  • Episodes were often aired out of order. After several complaints about this appeared in local newspapers, the series was dropped sometime in late 1979.

  • Spring 1983: After a four year gap, the series returned, weeknights at 7.00 to 8.00pm. The first story to air was The Invasion of Time, followed by Robot, and the stories cycled in sequence through to The Invasion of Time again.
  • The first 23 Tom Baker stories were in re-runs until at least late summer 1983, when it was dropped again (thus WVEC missed out in joining the nationwide screening of The Five Doctors in November 1983).
  • The series never returned to WVEC.
