When Doctor Who screened in Abu Dhabi in the 1970s, the population was 200,000, and licensed TV sets numbered only 16,000 (per WRTH, 1974).

Abu Dhabi began its television service in 1969.

Colour transmissions began in 1974 using the PAL colour broadcast system.

There is just one television station: United Arab Emirates Abu Dhabi Television Service, a government-owned commercial broadcaster. Doctor Who screened on its channel 5.
