- This story was made as a standard four-parter, but re-edited into a double-length two-parter. The original four-part version was supplied to the North American distributor, Lionheart. However, the print of part two was without music or sound effects. The omnibus "movie" version was similarly affected, but this time it was the entire second half that was missing its music and effects. There were also several extra scenes not used in the final UK cut.
- For sales to the other countries, the two-part episodes were simply cut in half (the first cliffhanger falling on Lytton's line, "Release Davros", with the third falling on Davros's declaration that his Daleks would once again become "the Supreme beings!"). These "episodes" played without their "PART TWO / THREE / FOUR" captions.
