HONDURAS is on the Central American isthmus, lying between Guatemala and Nicaragua.

Profile

Country Number (N/K) 1980s SECOND WAVE?
Region Central America
Television commenced 1959 .
Colour System 1973 NTSC
Language/s Spanish and English

Television Stations / Channels

Honduras began its television service in 1956.

In 1984, the country had three commercial television broadcasters. It is not known on which of these the series aired.

DOCTOR WHO (EL DOCTOR MISTERIO) IN HONDURAS

Doctor Misterio logo

In Spanish-language countries, the series was known as Doctor Misterio.

BBC Records

The Eighties - THE LOST CHAPTERS records a sale of "(24)" stories (by 10 February 1987).

This may be an error, as only 23 Tom Baker stories are thought to have aired in Central American countries. If there indeed were 24, it is not known what the other story was. (See also Guatemala and Nicaragua, which also have a sale of 24 stories recorded).

The fact that English is also a recognised language might indicate that 24 records a different package of episodes than that which was in circulation around Latin American countries around the time.

Honduras is not named in any of the DWM story Archives.

Stories bought and broadcast

TOM BAKER

Presumably: 23 stories, 98 episodes:

Honduras presumably bought the standard package of Tom Baker stories in Spanish that were distributed by Time Life.

  • For the Spanish story titles, go to: SPANISH

Origin / Fate of the Tapes?

Mexico, Chile, Costa Rica, Guatemala and Nicaragua all screened Tom Baker stories in Spanish / NTSC by the mid-1980s.

Transmission

TOM BAKER

No details, other than the year of sale being pre-February 1987.

TV listings

We have not been able to find newspapers covering 1979 to 1983. 1984 to 1986 have been checked, but there was no sign of Dr Misterio. In all likelihood, the series aired in the "missing" dates range.

If you have access to Honduran papers for 1979 to 1983, please drop us a line.
