The film was shown on the Grand Canary Island, from 28 December 1966; El Eco da Canarias; 27 December 1966

The CANARY ISLANDS are an island group in the Atlantic ocean off the west coast of Africa; they are an autonomous territory of Spain.

The eight main islands are (from largest to smallest in area) Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro and La Graciosa.

Peter Cushing and the Daleks

The first of the two Dalek movies was shown at the Cine Avenida in Las Palmas on the Gran Canaria island (Grand Canary Island) on Wednesday, 28 December 1966.

Gran Canaria is the third-largest but the second-most-populous island; it's very likely that the movie was also screened on Tenerife, which has the highest population.

Canary Islands in Doctor Who

  • Planet of Fire was filmed and partially set on Lanzarote.
  • Several of the New Series episodes have also been filmed on the islands - on Lanzarote (Kill the Moon), Tenerife or Fuerteventura (The Magician's Apprentice / The Witch's Familiar, The Zygon Invasion / The Zygon Inversion, Hell Bent, The Pyramid at the End of the World.)
