Doctor Who aired in these cities, on these channels:

Norfolk / Hampton

WVEC

Channel 13 (ABC)

  • In the 16 August 1978 issue of Variety magazine (see United States--1978), "NORFOLK / HAMPTON" is named as one of 17 cities to have bought the series. WVEC is therefore one of the very first US stations to screen the Tom Baker stories.
  • We have yet to establish the first transmission date, but the series initially aired Monday to Friday, at 4.30pm for several months.
  • After several months (when the station went onto a 24 hour schedule) the series was moved to a much earlier time (possibly 4.00am!).
  • Episodes were often aired out of order. After several complaints about this appeared in local newspapers, the series was dropped sometime in late 1979.
  • Spring 1983: The series returned, now at 7.00 to 8.00pm. The first story to air was The Invasion of Time, followed by Robot, and the stories cycled in sequence through to The Invasion of Time again.
  • The Tom Baker stories were in re-runs until at least late summer 1983, when it was dropped again (thus missing out in joining the nationwide screening of The Five Doctors in November 1983) and never rescheduled.
