• January 1987: For its second year of travels, the Doctor Who USA Tour is renamed Doctor Who Celebration & Tour 87-88. It makes its first stop in New Orleans, Louisiana.
• 24 January 1987: New Jersey Network is the first station to screen The Trial of a Time Lord:

- Since episodes 13 and 14 each had a different writer credit, the omnibus version had a replacement caption made naming all three together, with a slightly different typeface; this was done (presumably by Lionheart) so the format of the story title and combined writers captions matched.

• By early 1987, Lionheart declares that Doctor Who is available in over 185 markets across the US.
• 7 March 1987: The newly-cast Sylvester McCoy and John Nathan-Turner fly to the USA to attend a convention in Atlanta, Georgia; this is McCoy's debut public appearance as the seventh Doctor. They meet up with Jon Pertwee who is travelling with the Doctor Who USA Tour. That evening they all appear on Live from Atlanta broadcast from Mercer University, and are interviewed by Eric Luskin.

• 28 March 1987: Patrick Troughton dies, while attending a convention in Columbus, Georgia.

• 16 May 1987: Having completed filming his debut story, Time and the Rani, Sylvester McCoy visits Boston with the Doctor Who USA Tour; coverage is shown on WGBH.

• By June 1987, it is reported that Doctor Who is seen potentially by 74% of the country. By September it is announced that over 200 markets have screened the series. However, Lionheart starts hiking up the price for Doctor Who, triggering a backlash that sees a number of PBS stations dropping the series for being too expensive... (By 1987, a package of episodes (number unknown) was costing over $126,000!)

• By September 1987, the long-running FASA Doctor Who role-playing game is cancelled.

• By November 1987: CBS/FOX, under its Playhouse Video imprint, begins releasing further Doctor Who stories on home video (VHS and Betamax). The first new titles are Pyramids of Mars, The Brain of Morbius and The Robots of Death. They retail for $19.98.
• 19-20 December 1987: After 20 months on the road, the travelling Doctor Who USA Tour / Doctor Who Celebration & Tour makes it final stop in Miami, Florida
